Hey guys, so I'm new to these ancient fish and I was wondering if I could keep a Polypterus buettikoferi (4") with a Apteronotus albifrons (4-5")? It would be a 55g growout tank for them (probably move the knife to a different tank). Would this be possible or how would they be towards each other?

Thanks!

Right now I'm keeping Sens and a Lap with my BGK with no issues whatsoever. The sens are 6", the Lap 9", and the BGK 7". They are all also in a 55g.

I'd say you will be fine. I wouldn't think twice about it.

I've kept a 12" BGK with my polys before, large and somewhat smaller with no issues.

Awesome news! Would you recommend a Black Ghost Knife or a African Brown Knife with the bichir? The fish will all be added at the same time and close to the same size when they're added so neither of them will get any ideas about eating the other one, lol...

Either would be fine, just be ware of size. Neither species of knife grows rapidly.

Both Knife species would be fine with Polys. I'd go with the African Knife just to keep an African theme going:D

That's what I was thinking as well! I'm also going to have an african butterfly fish in there...they're all going to be the same size when introduced, and introduced together...:headbang2
