Is it possible to house more than one grouper in the same tank, if they are of similar size?
Hoping for a blue line grouper and a red flag grouper.

it all depends on sp. of them. i have seen multi grouper setups and was going to do it myself before i sold all my salt. the blueline has been mixed before, not sure what the red flag is, but if the "max out" at about the same size it should be good. as long as you can house them both.

totally agree with sbuse with the addition of saying: it all depends on the fish's temperament, they could be the most compatible fish ever and kill each other. i had 4 green chromis in a 30 gallon and three ganged up on one and killed it.

appreciate the advice, always believed the size of the tank could effect the aggression of the fish. Right now i have a 180 gallon aquarium with one bamboo shark about 18 inches and a 4 inch blue tang. When asking my LFS groupers compatibility it was a question of who can fit in who's mouth. Do you think i have enough room for two or stick to one grouper in the tank?

ive read somewhere, cant remember where, but that as long as the genus is different (first name in the scientific name) then it should be ok. Dont have any first hand experience with double groupers, I know my blueline is a mean sob and I wont be able to add anything else into the tank with him in there, hes already killed a trigger, and im not wasting anymore money on fish. If you add them at the same time, it might be ok, as they are territorial, mines basically took over my tank, hes in there with a volitan. Personally id prob stick with one, cuz if there is an issue with two, they are hard to catch because they chill in the rocks.

Unfortunately they are from the same genus. So i don't know how well they would mix. if i were to do it i would definitely add them at the same time. I think i'll give it a try and let everyone know how it works out. If worst comes to worst its a reason to get a new tank.
