Can anything be housed with a pair of jack dempsey cichlids??

They are about 3 inchs long

Was looking at a small species of bichir or something

Sorry if this had been asked a thousand times before but i cant seem to find a definate answer, so it may just be a trail and error thing??

thats what i thought i did have a small bristle nose in there with them unfortunately it didnt last long

Green terrors, blue Ali, Texas cichlids some peacocks and other larger cichlids. The more fish you can have without over crowding the less likely it is to focus on one.

It really depends on your tank size I think. With the exception of breeding season, in a large enough tank, even a pair of Jack's shouldn't pose any real aggression towards other similair sized tankmates. It is worth noting that the Blue Ahli, and the Peacocks listed above, are from the lakes of Africa, and require far different water parameters than that of the SA Cichlids, such as the Jack.

I have no issues with mixing south American and African cichlids. I even have some scats bigger than a baseball. upper 70's for temp and a little bit of aquarium salt. Not traditional but it works

They can go with many different fish - you just need to know your fish enough to know what may work. For instance, most similarly sized cichlids would work, catfish, things like that.
