Has anyone ever kept these two species together? The tank is large (my 300 gallon) The water perameters (PH, kh/gh and temp) are very similar. In my area, I would need to do an RO drip to keep either species. Daemon are very succeptable to neuromast pitting in my local water so I have avoided this species even though I would LOVE to keep them. There would not be any other tankmates than the two species.

Thoughts?

You looking at the U. fernandezyepezi the Wet Spot has on their list?

Uaru are 2.5" (they have larger ones as well) and the daemon are also at the 2.5" range, all F0. (no F1 availability any time soon)

I would think they should do quite well together. I have only kept daemon with Uaru amphiacanthoides but seeing that your going to be doing an RO drip they should be quite happy in your tank. Only problem is getting some healthy U. fernandezyepezi. They will make a stunning display together. Best of luck to you if you do get them and remember to post pics.

My LFS has a pretty consistant supply of Uaru f. I usually get the heads up when they come in so if I miss this chance (I've avoided them this long anyway) there will be another chance soon, I am more concerned with making sure homework is done before buying them and getting the drip worked out first. I have been researching both species for a long time but I cannot seem to find if anypone was kept these species togther before. 6-8 specimens of each, any member try this?

I've never kept the daemon, but I would assume they'd be fine based on what everyone else stocks with their daemon. My ferns were F1 and very active, but never aggressive. They basically ignored other fish, but would push back if they were harassed.

Good luck getting the F0 ferns to acclimate. You'll need it!

Thanks for the response Ryan. I am not really worried about the aggression in the ferns (from what I have read anyway), more so the daemon having never kept either species. I am also concerned the ferns might be very timid with such large tankmates. Daemon easily reach 10". What do you think? Are they very confident in your experience?

I don't think I'll be able to get my hands on any F1's of either species any time soon and these are local to me. Not much help for acclimation but at least the stress of shipping is less of an issue.

My F1s were very outgoing and active. The ferns don't get as big as amphiacanthoides, but they're a decent, chunky size as adults. I don't think they'd be too intimidated by large tankmates as long as the daemon weren't too pushy.

I've heard people say that F0 ferns are shy. I guess it depends on how old they are when you get them and how you acclimate them.

i have 5 F0 daemon, they are doing just fine with my tap water and prime. my ph is about 6.4 and temps are around 79. the severums and psittacus ignore them but are very picky with one another and my altifrons. i think they'd do great and look amazing with some ferandezyepezi

Thanks for the feedback Sean, I really appreciate it and love looking at yours. I found alot of info confirming they would do well together providing the tank is large enough. Crenicichla Regani and Heros sp. Atabapo could be candidates as well not all together though. Looks like I have an atabapo biotope on my hands. :D
