still doing more research, new question is, in an 8'x4'x4' tank can i place a silver arowana and a black arowana together?

Maybe, sometimes two aros will fight like mad, while another another pair will live peacefully together. Not any real way to tell except for putting the two in a tank together.

start with as many as you possibly can within reason I say.Poor people don't have 8'x4'x4' tanks so I'm assuming it wont be much of a problem.

I would get like 2-3 blacks and 4-5 silvers and weed out the trouble makers til all you have is the mellow ones with the best colors.
