I have designated one tank (30 Gallon) to house a pair of 4" Convicts (Male & Female). They are currently parenting five baby fry (about 1").

Question:

I would like to add a catfish of some sort to help with maintanence (eat wasted food / algae).

What is the best catfish to place in there? I have had plecos and cory cats in the past, but with the Convicts I am not sure.

BN plecs should be aggresive enough to hold their own, but be sure to provid lotsa cover.

I would go woth some type of suckermouth catfish, others might just eat the fry.

oh yeah, uh, plecs are notorious egg eaters lol.

yes they are I made the mistake of having a large pleco in with a pair of convicts I had that was nesting it ate all the eggs , in a 30 gallon I aint to sure other then the BN pleco just got to watch them carefully and when they spawn next time remove it

I wouldn't have used the term "aggressive". BN just pack a punch with the hooks by their mouth. They only defend, not attack.

And I have bred Jack Dempsey's in the same tank with a BN. He didn't go for the eggs.
