Hey Guys,

Monsterfishkeepers seems the place to be if you have any questions regarding some hardcore aquatic carnivores, sooooo. I've been in the hobby for probably 10 years now, and have decided that I would like to set up a relatively medium sized aquarium (30-55 gallon) for a single juvenile lungfish with intentions of increasing the size of the aquarium as needed. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for a first time lungfish owner. Im most interested in where I might be able to obtain my lungfish (i.e which online establishments are the most reliable). I also would be interested in knowing which species would be recommended for a newbie owner. Finally, I was wondering, though I know that lungfish are desensitized to water quality, if the aquarium should be cycled before the addition of my lungfish, or if the specimen would be able to endure the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite fluctuations unscathed. Thanks in advance, guys. =)

-Zachary.

Lungfish are awesome, long as like fish that don't move and can't be kept with anything.... :P

Seriously though, cycle the tank first, as you search for your fish. Compared to "regular" fish, all the species are pretty tough. The South American has the added benefit of being a community fish....

Yep, they're really mellow. THe fish would have to be really slow or sick to get eaten.
