yeah, I keep salt on hand, only use it with ich or if a fish gets an injury.
other than that, I don't use it.

same here. in 20 years of fish keeping I have dumped salt on top of everything from syndontis cats to expensive sterbai cory cats to barbs you name it, I've salted it.
never seen an issue to date.
I believe its just one of those myths that got spread around most of the time.
someone doses salt, has a catfish die (which actually died for reasons that have nothing to do with the addition of the salt) and the salt is automatically blamed, without really knowing what caused the fish to die. its coincidence, nothing more.
but next thing you know, the misinformation is everywhere..
