Just thought I'ld do some updates of things since the computer died. Don't have any pics because I can't find the cable for the laptop. Will do so when the new computer gets here. Anyways. Got a new aro, about three inches. He's in with the discus and eels. Swims around, totally unafraid and eats like a pig. Tank is more than adequate for his size, paramaters are fine(ammonia, nitrite 0, nitrate less than 20), eats like a pig. Problem is that he is the only one who hasn't grown. Must have the rare pygmy aro that everyone wants. Lost the monster goldline knife. He was eaten from each end leaving an unidentifiable eight inch piece floating. I blame the pacu posse, they are actually piranha in disguise. they actually run over the oscar, red devil and lyonsi at feeding time. The water actually boils. Will have to do a video some day. Gave away the smaller of the two tiretracks and the synodontis. Went to better homes.
Put in some gardens, vegetable and flowering. The veggies didn't fare so well in the heat, got one tomato almost ripe and that's it. The plants are doing well. Used recycled rubber mulch and recycled edging material with solar lighting. Trying to be green as possible. Water with tank water during water changes.
Got a call from someone one night saying they had a problem with a bearded dragon and could we nurse it back to health. Said it hadn't eaten in two days and they couldn't afford to take it to a vet and didn't want it to die. I'm expecting a 4-5 inch lizard as they sometimes stop eating. They walk in with a 14 inch lizard. Actually they walk in with a skeleton draped in loose skin. It's tail had no fat, every ridge and hole in its skull was visible. And all this happened in two days. Started force feeding immediately and set it up in a cage. It climbed into a water bowl and starting soaking. Next morning took it to the vet. The gave it a subcutaneous shot and x-rays. No loss of bone or blockages showed. That night it fought against a last feeding, which I took as a good sign. Next morning it was dead. It had been neglected too long. It makes me angry that people would neglect an animal like this.
Someone at work bought a small banded kingsnake at the holidays for their niece. Got bad advice from another shop they started feeding it in it's enclosure, now it's getting aggressive so her mom doesn't want her to have it. Guess who got offered it? Wife now starts off every conversation with "no snakes". Wonder who will win this one?
Got a second cockatiel, for about 30 minutes. Someone didn't want their 15 year old bird anymore because of noise and dust. Found it a home quickly so I didn't have to take it home. The new owner says it is very needy and talks, whistles and chirps non stop. Lucked out on that one.
Just celebrated 21 years yesterday.
Had a great day together. Just thought I'ld add that one in. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
