Computer help....is there any IT?

I got a Latitude D600 Dell laptop. Lately, when ever I turn on my laptop my PC are freezed when it said " starting up window" it froozed a good 5-7min. It's taking to long.

I'm not sure I have a spyware or virus in my laptop. But it never help to me before.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong with my Laptop and how to fix this? or I have to reboot my laptop again.
 
did you install anything lately that isnt "windowed certified".if that happened you will most likely have the extreme long window load screen or it wont load at all.that happened on my sis's comp and had to reformat to get it to work gain.
 
the only software i install was firefox...but that shoulnd't happen to it.

How can I reformat or what does it take to reformate it?
 
Do you leave a memory card in the reader (if it has one). I did that on mine and it wouldn't boot. As soon as I removed the card it worked perfectly.

To be sure if you don't have a virus, go to www.avast.com and get their virus protection (it's a good free program), and also download spybot and adaware. That will let you know if it's a virus or spyware. (if you've been running IE, chances are you have it)
 
yes i been running IE, but thanks for the advise. I will check to see what i have.

i didn't leave any memory card. just all suddenly wasn't boot up correctly.
 
Do you have vista? Is this the first time you turned it on? I know when I first got my laptop with Vista on it, it took a really long time to turn on because it needs to config stuff. Also, do you have a lot of programs on start up? I disabled almost all the programs on start up because my laptop doesnt have a lot of ram. Also, if you don't have a lot of ram, and running Vista, I would disable a lot of the animations that Vista has. It usually slows down computer that have less than 2 gb of ram.

ok firefox is safe, however it is trying to open as your default browser, go into explore set ie as default browser than go to msn and click on windows upgrade and download windowss defender, than run defender and clean up any adware or spyware, tham set defender to run every day, also defender will have a firewall, that will set itself in windows security automatically. after all that you should not have anymore problems. as for formatting use that as a last resort, if you have let me know and i will try and walk you thru it, however be warned you will lose everything on you hard drive dave:(
