in my 25g i have a plastic divider which splits 2/3 for fry and 1/3 for a male con no one would take. the fry have been in there for about a week but today i noticed some have made it through the holes or through the sides onto the side with the single male. i was worried at first but i saw that the male (not biological father btw) wasnt eating them but moving the fry into a pack in the corner.

is this normal for single cons to become somewhat of an adoptive parent?

i had this guy for about 2 months and his only friend is a tank ornament thats a turtle. maybe hes lonely and wants some companions?

That huge male jag from st louis took almost an entire batch of red devil babies from red devil parents and raised them on his side of the tank. Defending the babies against the RDs, midas, salvinis, and Doviis.

wow, that is pretty awesome! My oscar adopted a mosquitofish feeder, and tore out a severum's eye when it tried to mess with it. The feeder eventually died, and the oscar hovered over it for a couple of hours until the bichir ate it

Fish will frequently steal fry from each other, I've also had a 15" frontosa who was my cullinator keep a broke back Julidochromis I'd thrown in for food for a pet for 5 years, he got depressed when it died.

thats some interesting behaviour
