When I first got my JD i kept it in a 30g with my turtle. They were like best friends for the 6 months they were living together. She started to grow really fast so we put her into the 240g with the rest of our fish. She stopped eating and would just stay stagnant in the top corner in the dark. I know JDs seem to be attached more to their emotional side than other fish. But she was always a shy one and stayed in her corner, but when we moved her to the 240 she seemed completely different and it was sad. She's been in there for about 4 or 5 months now and she developed these whiteish/transparent stripes. she only eats about once a week, but doesn't seem to have any trouble living. but still seems, "sad".

is this normal in JDs or is this a topic of concern?

Not sure what is going on but if you can I would put her back in the other tank. I think what is compounding the problem with not being shy but maybe also a little scared.

what type of fish do you have in the 240 with her?? how big are they?? although jd's are savage predators, she may still be swimming around knowing she can get eaten at any moment. i would try putting her back in the other tank and see how it goes, see if she gets her pep back. good luck they are such a cool fish, i just recently lost my female jd of four years to a broken heater. sux

Hello...

Have you tested and compared water parameters between the two tanks? Also, what is your temp in the bigger tank and how good is your surface agitation? Hanging near the top is somewhat a sign that there's not enough oxygen in the tank. My JD's mostly hang near the bottom in and around structure.

When introducing a new fish to an established tank, it's a good idea to rearrange the decor and structure. Territories have already been established and the new fish is the odd man out (or female fish in this case :) ). You should try moving some stuff around, maybe add a bubbler if you aren't using one and see if she becomes more active.

Good luck!
