Home of the brave.
I am about to setup my 200 g and would like to know if using concrete cinder blocks from home depot for aquascaping would harm my fish in any way??? I have an kml FH, GT, arow and a jag... Also home depot didnt have any egg crate to use as a divider does any one know where I can get some???

Anybody?

yep, there is something about concrete in aquaria that scares me. i've found some rock out in the wilderness that was appealing to the eye and used it in my tank. i've only done that when i knew what type of rock it was and that it would not leach any toxins into my aquarium water. concrete seems to be a mixture of various elements. i'd check with a concrete professional and find out what's in it. but then, i'm sure someone on the forum can assist you with good CONCRETE information. no pun intended . . .(Smile).

where do I get egg crate home depot didnt have any?

Concrete is much like limestone. If your water is already hard it will have little effect, but can raise pH and hardness of soft or acidic water.

Try other home centers, hardware stores, or lighting shops for eggcrate. Sometimes you have to search around; the Lowe's near my house keeps the egg crate with the ceiling tiles instead of with the lighting.

so long as you're not keeping anything that needs soft water it'd be fine, but you've got that GT and arowana so I wouldn't reccommend it for you, If you want to use stone in your tank something relatively inert like granite or sandstone would be optimal

what about clay bricks?

I agree a true clay backed brick is inert and therefore safe... but typical red bricks used in construction today are not old school clay baked bricks. They are typically made with a lime based mixture (lime increases PH considerably).
