Hey all.
Some of you know me and some dont. I currently have an indoor pond/tank that is about 600 gallons... i need some help. I am looking to place a concrete Buddha statue in it... is it ok to do? This is a statue that is totally concrete and is sold at your local landscape/pond shops..... when i asked them they really didnt know... but im hesitant due to the fact i dont wanna lose any fish... is this a good idea? Anyone every do it?

Thanks

Not telling us the fish involved doesn't make it easy to answer. Basically, the lime in the concrete will leech into the water (fast if the water is naturally acid) and raise the pH. If you want the concrete to be pH neutral, it'll have to be epoxy coated.

Thanks Oddball but now that i think of it .. most of the outdoor ponds i looked at had a statue or fake concrete water fall in it... i have very nice fish that i will not harm... so im still up in the air... what i can do is try it in my hospital tank with some goldfish that i have and see what happens... before doing this for good... what do you think?

Only if your keeping gold fish in the indoor pond. Every fish is differnt from each other with water requirements, I think oddball is right and what you need to do is get some sweet water epoxy and seal your statue that way you dont have to worry ether way.
By the way WHAT type of fish are you keeping in your pond??

In pond is :
7 red blood parrots.
29 inch silver aro
16 inch black aro
3 severums
3 plecos
1 small flad tail shark
where do i get the epoxy? and what is the exact name of what i need to do this.,,,my fish die,,, i cry! but have a cool idea for the tank/pond

you could also place it in your hospital tank with a test fish and test the water, then wait a couple of days then retest your water to see any chemistry changes.

The reason I suggested sealing is, indoor pond or outdoor, the volume of the pond is small compared to the usual volume of a traditional pond. Changes caused by the raw concrete will have a greater and faster effect in 600 gallons of water at tropical temps than in larger traditional ponds holding coldwater species.
