Hey everyone. I've asked previously about how to add conditioner when you refill your tank after a partial water change from a Python or garden hose. A bunch of you said that you add the conditioner to the tank when you refill. However, how much conditioner do you add? Do you add the amount for a full tank or add just for the amount that you are refilling? Thanks, The Doctor.

I contacted Seachem about this because I use their water conditioner, Prime.

After getting an answer I emailed them back to double clarify, and if you add water straight from the tap, they recommend using the the appropriate amount of Prime for new water (So if you siphoned and replaced 200L of water, add 200L worth of conditioner), and do this after you've added all of the new water.

I just add an amount needed for the replacement quantity, but I also use a rubbermaid can to put water in before pumping into tank.

But will the conditioner be too diluted to be effective?

I add for just the amount that I am refilling, and I add it while the tank is being filled.

This is what I thought, but perhaps the concentration of conditioner is high enough for it to work effectively. I've been doing this for months now without any problems.

I used to dose the full amount of the tank after changing 30% but Seachem told me what I previously stated when I contacted them, so that's what I do now.

I dose a bit more than I need (I usually do one capful, which is enough for 50 gallons, when I do a 50% WC on my 75) and add it all right as I start to refill.

I go crazy with it. I use stress coat+.

I drain my 25%. Add enough for the full capacity of the tank into the tank directly. Then add 1 cap(treats 10 gallons) for every bucket I fill up.

You do realize that conditioner overdoses can heavily reduce oxygen and other mineral levels in the water? You're using way more than you have to anyway, that just sounds ridiculously excessive. The products are already concentrated enough to make sure they cover any level of nasties in the water, I doubt dosing three times as much as required is in any way beneficial.
