Okay. So i have the standard aquarium hood you get with any old 55g, not anything special.

Can i put t-5 bulbs in this thing? what bulbs CAN i put on standard hoods?

Is VHO adaptable to standard hoods? What is the highest wattage you can go with a standard hood?

If i cannot do it with a standard hood, which is the cheapest, most effective ( high wattage ) fixture i can find?

Are you selling any hoods? Thanks

The only bulbs you can put in that hood are the type that came with it, ie T12 or T8 fluorescent.

You can use the 48" fluorescent "shop light" fixtures from Home Depot, but it's not "high wattage" light. I've used a 4x65 watt Power Compact fixture on 55s with a great deal of success.

Phil

if you like to DIY, you could convert yours to T5, though I'm not sure you'd get enough lighting in there with the type of hood I think you have. Might be able to use the below kit to convert a regular shop light to T5:

if not, PC (as mentioned) is probably best bang for the buck, and the hood really depends on how many plants you're planning to have.

try home depot they sell t5 fixtures now not extremely expensive either then just zip tie it to ur hood or sumthing

Not going to do heavily planted any more, too much light required. I am going to find a really high wattage vho bulb or something that's like 110watts or something and get 5 or so amazon swords for the back region, there will be like little tunnels between the plants, there i will put rocks and driftwood, i want to put pieces in the front to. i will get some pics before and after
