Hey guys, A few quick questions to confirm or deny what i think is going on in my tank. I have a a 7-8 inch EBJD presumed male.. I recently added two presumed BGJD females.. to start a breeding project. The 2 BGJDs and the EBJD hit it off right away... all three swam together ... and happy. I go away for a few days and come back .. and had to remove the smaller BGJD or the other BGJD would have killed her. So have they paired up.. the ebjd male and the larger bgjd female? They are in a 40 gallon breeder by themselves now.. The smaller bgjd female (i assume) is the more aggressive when it comes to "play"? She's the fish that does the fin flashing and the gill flare and the awkward dance w/ mouth open against the larger ebjd.. Question: I always thought the male was the aggressor with the courting ? So it's been a couple weeks together... i added clay pots and such.. They seem alright.. but they rearranged the tank.. .. and the big and small fish are moving rocks with their mouth.. So what does this mean? Do i possibly have 2 females? Have they paired if they are m/f... and is any of this typical breeding behavior? I would just like to make sure i have a m/ f pair if anything.. they really seem like they are together.. shaking and shimmying alot ... but no eggs.. so i'm just confused.. to if i have a pair.. and if so... why no eggs... Water params are good.. i turned up the temp.. so .. patience i guess.

thanks

It sound like u have a pair just give them time..

I agree...if their dancing and moving gravel and rocks....their getting ready to do their thing..

gday,

yea i would agree with the past few posts. the EBJD are a lot more mellow then the standard JD or even BGJD, so that explains the difference between your female and male. it sounds like ordinary breeding behavior if you ask me. dont stress if you havent got eggs yet, good things take time and sometimes when everything is perfect it all comes down to the fish and when they are ready. the digging is them organizing an area for the eggs. so just give it time and they will be right mate.

cheers

*EDIT*
one thing more i will add. the reason why they recommend to use a male EBJD and a female BGJD or standard JD is because the EBJD's arent as aggro as the norm JD. also that is why you need to separate the fry if you have a mixed batch of EBJD and JD's.

yeah, thanks for the reassurance.. I think your right on.. in the above post . ebjd are not aggressive fish.. i'm goin away for a few days.. maybe they get down.
