Hi Guys

I am a little bit confused on how to treat cichlids if they have the following symtons, feces are white and stringy, tummies are either bloated or hollow, lose their appetites After reserching it seems to be caused by either internal parasites or bacteria.

There are three meds avalible in the UK

-Interpet internal bacteria

-Waterlife octozin, contains dimetridazole for flagellated protozoa

-Kusuri Wormer plus fluke and parasite killer

Not sure which one to use.

Is there any main differences if a cichlid is affected by internal parasites or bacteria I should be looking for? Thanks

your fish have bloat it seems.
do the following:
- raise temperature up to 84F (gradually)
- add epsom salt (i think it's 1 tablespoon per 10 gallon... but check dosage)
- dose with clout as appropriate
- STOP all feeding
- change 50% of the water each day

monitor your fish to see if the swelling goes down. it usually takes around a week, so be patient.

thanks for your advice. At present the festaes got a hollow tummy. It seems alot of my cichlids especialy festaes, get this problem when newly aquired. It seems to go but only after I have used a at least 2 of the meds(not at the same time) or all three. It would be good to know how to diagnose more accurately or is it sometimes just trial and error?

oh, i must have overlooked the hollow tummy part. lol
well it could be they have internal parasites. i've found that jungle parasite medication works for me. dose as instructed.

what are the main ingredients for these meds? I'd use something with praziquantel or metro

To me it sounds like they have intestinal worms. That's what i would treat for.
