I am thinking about purchasing one of these puffers. Just wondering if they can be fed exclusively freeze dried krill and shrimp.
With occasional feedings of snails from time to time.

Had a group of 6 and they loved market shrimp and bloodworms but didn’t take to frozen or dried krill. Finally got mine on Hikari Vibra Bites and they got nice and round. I got lucky they ate pellets...once they did, it was a lot easier raising them

Are you talking about T.Miurus? Coz in nature they are ambush piscivores usually...

in other words they won’t eat snails and for the most part are quite hard (not impossible) to train onto dry foods...

fish fillets / shrimp and other seafood items maybe a better choice...

I got my T. Miurus onto frozen fish fillet, but that needed a lot of work, they wouldn't eat anything just lying on the floor, had to wiggle it in front, for it to show any interest.

But was the coolest fish to observe while they hunt.

Here's a video, i made of the one i kept

Which Congo puffer are you talking about Schoutedeni or miurus? As jib and homer said miurus is a fish eater. While Schoutedeni eats a wider variety of stuff mostly insect larva, small insects, water bound inverts such as shrimp and snails. I have heard of people getting Schoutedeni to eat pellets especially vibra bites. I tried vibra bite with mine and she was so disgusted by them she wont even eat bloodworms anymore. I tricked her into trying the bites by putting in bloodworms at the same time she grabbed a bite chewed it for a second spit it out, tried it a second time and spit it out again. Ive tried it a few times since then and unless I feed snails after she wont eat anything else I put in her tank that day. As soon as she sees its vibra bites she sulks at the bottom of the tank in the corner. She will eat brine, mysis, krill, market shrimp, and she absolutely loves bladder snails.

I have had 2. My first one was large when I got it and lasted 5 years. He only ever ate live fish (mostly minnows, goldfish, guppies). He lived 5 years. My current one I got young and he is 2 years old. He also only eats live fish. It takes hi up to a day or two to eat them. I have tried everything else with them. I even had a glass shrimp colony coexisting with my first one because he ignored them. Sadly I have never had a good source of pest snails though the first one didnt seem to care about them when offered
These puffers are sort of like having a pet rock but they are cool and change color like a chameleon.
I was going to post a pic but the current one is my avatar.

typical picky eater syndrome that puffers have... which is why it can sometimes be hard to recommend what will or won’t work with another persons puffer diet...

Hi I am talking about Miurus puffer. Thanks for all the info. May still pursue in getting one. I have seen them for sale up here. About a dozen or more. Funny nobody has purchased any when I spoke to the staff. Been at the store for 6 months.
