Congo Puffer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to have one, they are piscivores by nature and wont eat snails... so for diet i used to feed mine scallops / mussels / crayfish etc...

As for size; Largest one i've seen personally was about 6" or so...

Also, they are ambush hunters, and prefer having a soft substrate they can bury themselves in, so most of the time all you may see is some eyes sticking out, unless you get lucky and find an active one...

Last but not least, i would give a singeton at least 30G to be comfortable for life

Mine is the more rare case. He is always up and swimming around. He is topped out at about a chunky 4 inches or so, maybe a hair bigger. Mine also is not a piscivore. He only will eat shrimp tails and maybe a clam here or there. Tricky part seems to be feeding them, since they will not actively "hunt" food. I have to trick mine into thinking the shrimp tail is moving by in front of him before he pounces on it.

Is this also referred to as the pig nose puffer? If so, I had 1. Meanest fish I've ever owned, and I've owned some pretty mean fish. It was by far the smallest fish in the tank at 4" while everything else was at least a foot and it was still attacking other fish, taking chunks out of body and fins. I was fed up with it and separated him before selling him.

Feed them about 3-4 times a week, and FORGET about getting these guys onto any pellet foods, it just wont happen... I tried for around 3 years with my old one with no success...

As for sexing, as far as i know you cant sex them unless you do an autopsy...

I think pig nose refers to T.Suvatti, while a congo puffer is a T.Miurus

This is spot on. I feed mine everyday though, just smaller meals.
