I just did a water change and now 7 out of 12 Congos are dead. I usually do 25% only because I don't like unplugging the filter. This time I did 50% and unplugged the filter. As I filled the tank, I see my Congos dying off one by one. :irked: Just waiting to see if anymore die. Are Congos sensitive?

This isn't the first time too. I had a smaller group before and did the same thing, but I only lost 1 out of 6. It's a 50g running with an Emp 280

I can only guess the fresh water isn't getting cycled fast enough. With the Emp 280 you're up to the max tank size capacity that it can handle. Probably stick with the 25% water changes. Even if it's still a bit dirty, atleast it wouldn't be a sudden change in water parameters. Bumping up filtration would clear up the water quality as well.

On a side note I currently have 5 congos about 2.5". Real healthy. I'm thinking about picking up 8 more and having a nice shoal =P

When I got Congos, they were just to fill up space...but I found them to be surprisingly cool! They look better than Exodons and will go after feeders. :headbang2 Unfortunately, I'm down to 4...8 Congos died! :irked:

i think theres something wrong with the line yer getting.. my congos are extreamly hardy.. have you tested yer tap water?

Nothings wrong with the line. I used the same line for both my tanks that day and only the Congos died off.

he meant the congos you picked up. they might be diseased or extremely stressed. congos do tend to a little sensitive, especially to pH. they like softer water. if you have liquid rock coming out of your tap and you are just dropping them in, they may be getting more stressed. how long do you quarantine and whate are your water parameters? we do big water changes with our congos and and they dont flip out at all. out of the 6 we got several months ago, all 6 are huge and very brightly colored. it did take them about 3 weeks to fully acclimate to being in their new surroundings though

I already had these Congos for 3 months. And this was the second time I've done a 50% water change on them. The first time I had 6 and 1 died. I bought 7 to make it a dozen and 8 of them died this time around. I don't use test kits, I usually do weekly water changes and just go by sight and smell. I know the pH from the tap is 7.0
