connect the pump to the socket

hey all i have been thinking of adding a pump to a backyard pond i have no idea about these electrical appliances and all i was thinking of connecting the pump to a pond switch box will it work then or do i need to connect the box to something as well pls help me guys iam really clueless

Most pumps should work by just plugging them into an outdoor socket (waterproof for safety).
What kind of pump are you using?

just a waterproof pond pump
