its a secret
ok my cons had a bunch of fry.. i think around 25 so far and there are a bunch of eggs left.. how ong should i let them stay with the parents before moving them into a different tank. i wont want the parents to eat the babies. they are like 2 or 3 days old right now.. i was so excited. i belive i have 2 felames and 1 male. the male con killed one of the other females. but i think i have 2 sets of eggs from the same dad but different mom at the same time.. if that makes sence.. so how long shoul dthey be in there with the parents and what do i feed them when they are that small?

Get ready to soon be overrun with convicts. You will not have to worry about the parents eating the fry. They are very protective parents and they will be around the fry until they are able to fend for themselves. I have a mating pair in my tank that gives me new fry monthly and they take over a quarter of my 125 as "their" territory and they will fight anything that comes in to that space. But as soon as the fry are big enough to spawn again they will.

well the reason im breeding them is cause i have 4 RBP with big appitites!! i put 10 feeders in thursday night, and when i looked on friday they were all gone. and my RPB are only about 2" long!!!

Nice... I do disagree with the upper statement.. The parents are known to eat fry... They can stay with them as they are good parents as far as my breeding went a while back and recently... But do not be surprised if the parents take a few down.. And especially as stated in th prior post, you'll have plenty... And when you have a few breeding pairs thats wehn they will start disappearin and noticible as fry :)

If you do how ever have a ten or twenty gal. This is very suitable to raise your fry in to edible age :) But it is not generally necissary to seperate from the Parents.. If they do eat them they shouldn't eat them all.. This has been my experience..

Also you do not in my experience see deformations so this could also be a reason why they do eat some... Culling off the deformities themselves :) But that is not my place of knowledge just an opinion

i have the pair in a 20g long. how long shoul di expect untill they are able to be used as a feeder?? and shoul di just get cichilid micro food for them or what?

Ok this is what my experience has taught me. First off convicts are great parents and will not eat thier babies especially if they are well fed. They will also defend against anything that comes near them. So unless you have many other tank mates that the parents can't fend off during the night the babies should be fine staying with the parents.

the only real fry problem i've ever had was when my con pair was originally also in a 20g. things went great til the first time batches of kin 'over-lapped' and confused the hell out of the parents. fry/eggs/tail was eaten as a result. so i never let that happen again, always removing the fry prior to the next load and never had any further problems.
the tail grew back.

th only thing in the tank is 4 small cons like under 2". 1 hi fin pecosomous (spelling sorry) and the fry.. thats all that is in there.
