In a pair of convicts how many eggs are there per batch?
How often do they spawn more eggs?
How nutritional are their eggs as feeders to my bigger fish?
At what size do m/f pair up?
How do you sex them?

with my cons the one time i saw their eggs maybe 100 eggs! most will hatch and if there arent anymore fish most should survive.

i like them as feeders for my wolffish it gets him off his but and makes him actually have to hunt! but sometimes they get smart to him and only once has this happend but can stay a live for months to the point where he'll never catch them.

but it should be a very good feeder for whatever your feeding them to especially things that swim fast give them some exercise but they dont get to fast till maybe 1"

i would think your feeding them to your snakeheads! they should work nicely!

the males have pointed fins get larger! and females get some blue in their fins while mating and a lil orange this can be come very bright during mating too.

they pair off around 1"-2" try four of them and you should get at least 1 pair.
do not try to keep two pairs together unless in a 55! it would be more efficent to have one pair per 15gal.

before i said almost all 100 i havent had any cons alon for a while but mayb 50 give or take 20-10

for nutrition they would be more healthy than feeders. especially if you feed them good foods!

Hey that's alot of info thanks alot man. How do I sex them at 2" in size? What do I look at besides their size? I heard females have pink on their belly area? What else do I look for before I make a purchase? That way I wont need to buy a group when I can just get 1m/1f. -Jeff

yea i thought i wrote that females have orange bellys. rounded dorsal fins

females dont get much bigger than an inch though!

but as they get older they may lose that orange until breeding but then lose it again!

ive seen anywhere from 30 to 100 but im new

the easiest way to tell the sex of the cons is the orange coloration.....if there is orange then its a female...and as for the amount of fry question my pair usually averaged 50-80 that was for five consecutive spawns until the male killed the female......and i do like using them as feeders......

So I should setup a divider huh? I have extra eggcrate I can make some holes only big enough for the female to go through.
