I two cons, one male and one female,5" male and 3 " female in my 55 right now. For the past week they have been digging holes in the gravel, down to the bottom, but there have been no eggs. So do u guys think I should keep them in there or move them.

Ps I have a two oscars in there as well, and the male con is always beating up of the foot long oscars

First off, 2, foot long Oscars are more than should be in a 55 in the first place. And Oscars aren't really aggressive, just big, so most smaller aggressive Cichlids will pick on them if not given enough room for territory. A 10 gallon is not big enough for the Convicts however. Either try and get a larger tank for the Oscars, maybe a 125, or at least a 75, or try and find a larger tank for the Convicts, a 29 at the bare minimum.

Really... I have read that most people get 10 gallons to breed cons

just because it can be done does not mean it should be. in a 10 you get the pleasure of watching your male beat the female to death each time you breed!! yay fun!

20l is best for breeding cons providing plenty of hiding places for the female.

and yes the 55 is already way over stocked...minimum for one Oscar is 75g.

Get a bigger tank for your 2 oscars, they need it, and ether leave the convicts in the 55 or get somethin like a 30g or 40g for them and restock the 55

Kaosu - you mean 20 gallons right? 20l is less than 10g.

Anyways, yes you can indeed breed cons in a 10g. It may result in lots of fighting and death, or it may be perfectly fine, especially if your pair is well bonded. For life, a larger tank - 29g or so is recommended as that'll provide them with heaps of room and all that stuff. But if you don't care too much about that, then yeah 10g is recommended.

So yeah, depends on what your goal is. If you don't care too much about whether or not your Cons will be stunted, and just want to breed them, then 10g is fine. If you want them to be the masters of a tank, then can always remove the oscars (you will have to remove them anyways, as stated by the others), and keep the pair in the 55g and let them breed and populate the tank with their babies. Add dither fish or fish you don't mind seeing your Convicts chasing and killings (i.e. guppies, platies, mollies, etc.). Would be nice actually, having a tank like that. Probably. :))
