Well I have 4 baby cons all between .5-1" my tank is a standard 10 gallon. I feed them a pinch of crushed up cichlid flakes every other day. Any advice will help thank you in advance

young cichlids I feed 3x daily just small amounts each time. I also use high quality food. Water being kept in pristine condition is a must as well. As for your 10 gallon, cons will be to large for that in no time. If its just a grow out tank then disregard that statement lol

Normally people recommend a 10% water change weekly, but it depends on the bioload and filter. You'll want to make sure you are feeding them 2-3x a day. Make sure to test your water and if ammonia, nitrites get high, do a water change regardless of time frame. Your convicts will outgrow that 10 gallon quickly! Next time ask us for stocking advice! We are awesome (shameless self promotion).

Then you are well on your way! Private Message me if you need some more tips! Convicts are hardy and can be very entertaining...be warned though...if you make a "love connection" and 2 of those 6 form a breeding pair (they can hit sexual maturity in as little as 16 weeks!) they may become aggressive to the others. You may end up with a few pairs...the key is going to be getting a bigger tank (seems like you have that within grasp) and doing a good job 'aquascaping', meaning lots of hiding spots, line of site breaks...probably wouldn't do live plants, they usually eat them, but maybe some fake ones? Good luck! Welcome!

10% weekly isn't enough in my opinion. I change between 50 and 70 percent weekly in all my tanks. Especially on grow out tanks that I feed more often.

I agree, Cichlids produce a growth inhibitor hormone.
That builds up in the water. So even if your water quality is good,
The hormone builds up. And the only way to remove this, Is water changes.
The smaller the tank, The more often the water changes are needed.

I have week old fry that I'm growing out in a 10g tank. I do 20% water changes every other day. I have at least 60 marbled con fry in a 40 breeder. They are .25"-.75" in length and I change 30% of the water once a week sometimes twice if I'm in the mood. I feed both tanks 3x a day with crushed nls cichlid formula.
