Sadly about two weeks ago I lost my jack Dempsey he was around 9 or so years old and was one of the first fish I got when getting into the hobby as an adult. His 125g tank looks ridiculously empty with out his mass swimming around it like a watch dog or plopped in the middle like a blob (he was a fat fat Dempsey). His tank mates were 3 polypterus senegalas, and a breeding pair of BN plecos. as well as assorted size offspring of said plecos.

I am considering a couple Electric blue Acara to replace him and wanted to see if any here had thoughts to the positive or negative on that.

thanks for any feedback ect.

you could do an acara or 2 but I would personally add a severum and acara also, how big are your bichirs? I am,sorry for the loss of your Dempsey as well

Im a big fan of acaras. Rapps at www.tangledupincichlids.com as a few different aequidens to pick from.

Always liked pallidus and biseraitus

The bichirs are 6, 9, and11 inches roughly. I wouldnt mind a pair would sell well at local fish auctions. May look into a sevrum as well.

Also considered moving my angels over to that tank as well they are dollar bill sized gold marble angels. The 3 of them with the acara would be good contrast.

Yeah acaras and angels sounds like a really nice combo. How big do the electric blue acaras actually get? I only ever see the little 2" guys

sorry couldnt respond crazy work schedule. acaras get 7-8 inches from what I have read. Think im going to get 4 to start and see how they do. (bichirs might get one or two) . And move my angels over They are gold marble angels about the size of a dollar bill .

Gonna wait till after this weekend tho. I am picking up two bags of black diamond blasting sand sat and redoing my whole tank. Black bacground, Black sand . Trimming back my vals and java fern a bit (java has gone nuts covers all the lava rock on one third of my 125g foot print) . Gonna move the tank so I can set my 75g beside it in an "L" shape so I can plop my grand fathers rocker in the middle and watch my tanks.

Post some pics of the finished product
