Hey guys, i have a 75gallon brackish tank with current residents being a full grown freshwater moray eel and 3juvenile silver datnoids with one being around 4inches and the others around 3inches each. The current fish have been together for around 7months now with no problems whatsoever. I was thinking about adding 2puffers either green spotted or figure eight(personally prefer the green spotted). My concerns are mainly 2. Will the puffers chase the dats or bite their fins off or possibly kill them? I dont want them stressing out my little dats. My other concern is will my moray see the puffers as lunch and swalow them causing death?

I dont want to risk either my moray or my dats but id love to get a gsp so whats your toughts?

If u got any fish that stays on the sand/gravel then do not even think about buying a puffer. I bought a Fahaka and now I'm trying to sell my bichir for obvious reason. Amazing fishes though :-).

The F8's may work depending on how brackish the tank is... as for the GSP's they require full marine when they reach adulthood and are known to be aggressive...

thanks for your replies, but i think that my most concern is wheter the moray will swallow one of the puffers causing him to puff up and both to die! from the datnoids part i will be willing to take a chance cos i will have time to observe before its too late but as i said im more concerned about the moray, can anyone pls give me an opinion?

What's the adult size of those dats? What SG are they in?

well i dont wanna sound like a noob but i never actually measured the sg! what i do is 75litre waterchange per week. I get 3x25litre cans and fill 2 of them from my pond (freshwater) and the other one directly from the sea. So i guess that the water is 1/3 saltwater if that makes any sense! but its been working fine for 7months!

Dats adult size is around 12" i guess but theyre still juvies and they take around 7 years to reach adult size! Ive noticed very little growth in the 7months ive owned them and they get fed 2x daily!

Edit: But like i said im more concerned about my moray swallowing a puffer! pls any advice on this?

Not sure about the SG, but i would say there is a chance that your moray MAY try and eat the puffer depending on the eels size etc...

Basic rule of fishkeeping is, if it can fit into it's mouth, it will probably eat it. Law of aquatic nature.

True Pufferpunk, but at the same time my 18" moray has been living with my 3 2" dats for 7months! Anything else that was put in the tank (3"mollies,guppies,shrimps) was eaten but the dats seem to be an exception!!! All my friends are amazed that my dats didnt get eaten so i guess theyre an exception? are puffers an exception too? :P

I would say if your Moray already has a tendency to eat fish in your tank, it will more than likely at least try to eat your puffer...
