considering spotted gar

Ive been consider ing getting a 4" spotted gar but i would like to know the growth rate, tank size etc, i was thinking of keeping it outside in summer then when the tempertature drops bringing it inside so how big would the inside tank need to be and are there any viable tankmates.

Thanks i got a spare 2x1x1 for it to grow out in till it gets 8" or so.

Just be sure you understand that all gar species should be well over 12 inches in about a year. Most that i have seen fall into the 14-16 inch catagory within the first year (assuming you get a Florida/Spotted gar). Make sure you can upgrade as need be. Good luck.

theyre awesome fish.
ive heard of some getting to 17 inches in the first year.
my first one got to 15 inches in its first year.
best dimensions for a tank is something with a 3 or more foot width and 6 or more feet in lenth..
