I have a friend who tests backflows. It prevents unpotable water from getting into the water you bath in and drink. If you have a constant water system with the nozzles of your drippers submerged, the water could potentially backflow into your drinking water if there is a large break in your pipes. You can install a backflow in your system if your nozzles are submerged, if the nozzles are not submerged you are not at risk because of the air gap. My nozzles are submerged on my system so I'm installing one. I had it laying around my house. All restaurants, fish stores, irrigation systems, fire systems etc. are required to have backflows to prevent such a thing. Winter is coming and pipes freeze and break and the risk is there. Hope that helps some of you guys.

why dont you just set it up so that it is not submerged...., isnt it easier...??

What would be the advantage to submerged?

the thing I was told about check valves and back flow when we put them in at work is it takes 65psi to get water back into the main system we only put them in cause my boss is paranoid about terrorists cause we are right down the street from the water tower

I think that it is highly unlikely it would ever happen, but I had one laying around and figured what the heck. It would be pretty nasty to drink up ray poop in my water pipes. Just looking out for my peeps.

Good call. It's required on ice machines and similar things around here, so there must be a risk involved.

think its more just for the hell of it... code etc... always needs something to nit pick but they are cheap enough that it can't hurt...
