controlling algea

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't personally have a pond but my uncle has a 9000gl pond that we built and upgraded from a 2000gl. What he has is a uv sterlizer that is built in to a pond skimmer. It cost him about $300 something but it was well worth it. The fish can take care of the algea pretty good but when it gets out of contorl or how he doesn't like it he turns it on and it take care of the algea in no time.

It depends on the pond but if it is small enough garden shade screens help a lot and so does adding plants such as potted reeds and rushes, pond lilies, lotus, and elodea canadensis. Water lettuce and hyacynth also work wonders but expect to have to harvest and discard a lot of it.
