Oregon, it's part of 'Murica!
So its now spring and I am having an issue with two of my tanks that are in direct sunlight. The tanks are cycled and cleaned on a regular basis but I am having an issue with green water and its getting rather annoying. This wasn't an issue until I moved to my new apartment, where the tanks are its often in contact with direct sunlight and it can't be moved. Its getting ridiculous, I do a 100%+ over the course of two days and its an issue again the next day so I am assuming the cause is algae because everything else checks out fine. The two tanks that have contact with sunlight have this issue and the other two don't.

So are their any products I can add to the tank without damaging the biofilter like Tetra Algae Control or something? I would like to pick something up today so any help will be appreciated.

I would first try to block the sunlight with blinds or curtains. If that isn't an option I would buy a UV sterilizer. If that's not an option, then as an absolute last resort, I would try using chemicals.

I have used Tetra Algae control in the past with great success. Don't overdose. If anything, use less than recommended on the bottle to see if it clears it up. It was amazing how within just a few hours, my tank was crystal clear after using this product. A little goes a long way with this stuff. Good luck resolving the issue.

Can't block the light with the way my curtains are setup and I don't have the money for a UV sterilizer.

I edited my original post. Hit it with a little bit of Tetra Algae control and watch your tank clear up like magic within a few hours. I did not experience any issues with my bio (no ammonia spikes) and the fish did not seem to be affected at all.

Thats what I wanted to know, thank you. I find it a little odd that I couldn't find a straight answer off google, I would think that is one of the more important questions one would ask before adding a chemical to you tank....

Tank is definitely clearing up but I noticed some of my fish are acting a little bit more sluggish. Forgot to half does but if I use it again I will. Gonna check the water parameters tonight and when I wake up in the morning. Hopefully its not an issue.

Be careful with the chemicals, my mom put some algae fix in my tank and almost killed off my whole tank, only a few surviving fish and I moved them out quick, I would do a water change and then do a half dose
