Another interesting pathway (at least for me) is transitional evolutionary convergence that may be indicated in how the Darienheros (the only species in its genus, with a very restricted and limited range in the Darien) of the isthmus seems to have evolved from the earth eating, shoaling, and rheophillic Geophagines (and their close relatives) in South America into the Cribroheros and Thorichthys earth eating, and shoalong species in Central and North America.
