OK, so I was thinking about converting one of my 55 gallon tanks over to a salt water tank. I was talking to my LFS, and thery told me, that it wouldnt ve that hard, or expensive at all, especially since I only want to do a non-living tank, meaning, a mostly fish, non coral tank. They said the only thing I would need is crushed coral, sea salt, and extra filtration. Thats about it. What do you think?? Mayby something like this...maybe a few live rock here an there, but nothing extravagent. I honestly just dont liek the looks of a reef tank, and real coral. But thats just my opinion. And by no mean is a dis on anyone who does it, just not my style...

sand saltmix, and a skimmer is preferred thats what you need

you can go a head use the your regular filtration to

btw alot of people call it fish only or FO for short.

crushed coral isn't the best of substrates I'd go with a different kind of sand maybe aragonite sugar sized or a little bigger depending on what you like. If it is only going to be FOWLR then a wet/dry trickle filter and a good canister filter should be good as well as a nice protein skimmer and refractometer to measure your salinity.
