Have a spare acrylic aquarium and need a new sump. Anyone tried it? Wals don't look very bowed so I think it might work. Call me crazy

You just joined the club of MFK everyone uses old tank for dumps

I totally get using glass aquariums, just can't seem to find DIY acrylic aquarium sumps.

Anything that holds water and doesn't fall apart can be used as a sump.

I've used old tanks, plastic barrels (above), old claw foot bath tubs, etc, and they don't have to be directly below the tank, they can be off to the side, even on another floor.

The only rule is gravity.
I've even used a 1500 gallon pond as a sump for some outdoor tanks, your imagination is your only restriction.

It's a 55gln for a 180gln tank. Acrylic glue for baffles and sock holder will be interesting. Cutting up some old acrylic I have. I have a new 100 tooth carbide table saw blade, but not specific to plastics. Hope that will be ok. If finish isnt fine enough I can use router table to do edges. Trial and error will be my guide. Fingers crossed. Will be a couple weels before I attempt.

Yeah it should work just gk slow with the cuts. If it starts to melt back it out and cool down. I like to run a hose on the saw blade while cutting to cool it.

I would suggest using silicone to put the baffles in. Anything put in with acrylic epoxy will be more or less permanent. With silicone you will be able to take the baffles out if you need to.
