So i caught these baby fish from a little creek that comes in from the bay and i believe its brackish water. I have only about 5 baby fry alive and was wondering can i convert them into freshwater such as in my tank. Ive been slowly adding fishtank water into the tiny 2.5gallon tank i have them in, hoping since they are small they can adapt to freshwater since they havent been living in that brackish water for to long. This is my experiement because i want to raise them so i can at least ID what type of fish this is living around there. Please comment and give me your opinions if this sounds possible and if so give me some advice. Thanks :D

Whether you can convert the fish or not may depend on what they are, have you any idea of that?

Well good luck with that and let us know how it all turns out.

Its best to know what they are before converting them..some fish found in brackish water are only in it while young to escape predators..and move in to full salt as adults.

others are in brackish and can go full fresh or full salt like sticklebacks.....just saying some fish will not convert to fresh no mater what you try.... you should try taking pics and posting them to see if its even possible.

well my phone quality sucks and there still pretty small i dont even know how i netted the new born fry haha but i had 4 of those and 1 bigger one ill try get a pic of it

if they are that small, I would grow them out in brackish for a bit before trying to convert regardless of species. new born fry are going to be quite fragile and will not appreciate the change in salinity until they are stronger(bigger/more developed)

sounds like a good idea. but the thing is i don't have time to go back to those waters to get some more samples. I mean they seem fine in 25% of the water i gotten them from and 75% of aquarium water. the bigger one is eating tropical flakes and the fry are still alive and healthy.

good deal, let us know what they turn out to be. Ive had bad luck with fry less than 1/2", but usually due to temp fluctuations. great to see that they're eating. good luck

So currently the one bigger fry is alive and the small new born fry died. The tank was low and I refilled it with more fishtank water and he looks like he's breathing fine. He just ate more flakes and is getting used to finding food in the tank. Still sort of sceptic when I feed him prolly on instinct but yea almost a week now in two days he grew a bit more starting to see his pattern. Less thn 1 inch still
