Ok so I had a major impulse buy a few months ago it was a 220 gal and stand tank and I decided to get it made reef ready for $600 which was a good buy I thought. Now I am regretting it. I can set it up as a fish tank right now b/c I dont have a spot that can hold that much weight. And we are going to finish our basement but not for another year or so. And I am tired of waiting and looking at it every day empty. So I now am thinking about setting it up for some herps now. And here is where the problem arises I was wondering if there was some way I could 1) plug the drilled holes and 2) cover the top of the intake things on the back. Any ideas would be excellent. Hopefully this empty and depressive tank can be put to use soon so I will have an exscuse to buy something new.:naughty:

well they make caps for threaded bulk heads.... and get some strips of 2x2 wood and attach chicken wire to make a screen top.....

Seriously, RESIST THE URGE. I have three tanks that were previously used for housing herps. They are glass and badly scratched up. Housing the herps is temporary, but the damage they cause is permenant.

Have you had a professional review of your floor joists? If they were reviewed by the lady of the house, it will do wonders to bring in a contractor or home inspector that you can "have a word with" prior to him showing up (if you get my drift). Your tank can safely be placed along a supporting wall and perpendicular to the floor joists (that's an 'and', not an 'or').

Just a thought...
It is unlikely that your run of the mill contractor or home inspector is going to know how to calculate the weight of a tank. If they won't say what you need them to say, you should bring in an engineer. The tank will span four floor joists. Each will support 550 pounds. This is well within limits of the joists. (Two extra large men side by side won't break your floor; the tank won't either.)

Thanks for the ideas on this I will deffinately have a contractor come in and check it out for me.
