I had sand as a substrate and my tank is 220gal. I can't reach every little it of sand that is in there. Any harm to the water when I convert to salt water? Also, there is only a little bit of algae in hard to reach places and I have filled the tank with only water and an algae destroying chemical. Do I have my bases covered ere? Will algae that thrives in fresh also thrive in salt?

Don't worry if its only a bit of sand. I changed my sand from my FW tank to gravel and then while cleaning out the gravel to put in live sand when changing to SW a little bit got left behind, very little of the original sand, but still a little. I covered it with live sand and never had a single issue. I wouldn't worry about it really.
I can't say for sure but I don't think FW algae will survive in SW but it will decompose and release whatever it consumed in the way of Nitrates.
