so in my 125 community tank i have one male convict and 2 smaller females, the females are doing great, all the time but the male gets super pale when ever i turn the lights out. once the lights go back on he colors back up but after dark he gets super flushed out.. is he being bullied? whats wrong with him? they still aren't pairing up..

I assume you have other fish in the 125 with the convicts. Is the male getting harassed after the lights go out? I find that most of the violence that goes on in my tanks happens when the lights are off. Otherwise, you could just have too much going on in the tank for them to breed.

If other fish aren't the blame for the male Con's stressed behavior, it could be his own reflection. I've noticed that in a few of my tanks that when I turn off the lights the fish can see their reflection on the glass. A few see this as a rival and actively attack the glass. A few others will stay away from the portion of the glass where they can see their reflection. It could also be nothing to worry about. I've looked in my tanks at night while the fish were at rest and have seen them pale and dark. Once the lights are on they gradually return to their normal coloration.

alright well i doubt its the other fish, the most aggressive thing besides them are 4 black skirt tetras and the females are smaller than he is and they seem fine.. some times the peppered cory catfish will chase them around but not like they were trying to attack them in any way. i guess ill chock it up to nothing to worry about..it is kind of a lot of stuff going on so that could very well explain the breeding issue, plus all the fins are fine and once he "warms up" with the lights lights he's better than ever so ill just leave it alone i guess.. thanks guys
