just wondering, i have a tank with 5 cons in it, wondering if it would be safe to put a few firemouths in with them ( there are a couple barbs and silver dollars in it, but they seem to get along with everything)

don't want to put the firemouths in if the cons will kill them or the other way around.

oh....tank is 60 gal largest con is 5" or so ( male), 3 are 2-3" ( female) 1 is 1 1/2 " (male)

the other fish, 3 green tiger barbs, 3 albino tiger barbs and 4 silver dollars, all under 1" and all swim together in a school at all times.

the firemouth i was considering putting in are all 1 1/2" unsure if there male/female

I personally wouldn't try it with firemouths that small. Convicts can be extremely aggressive and are very powerful for their size. I would try to either find some bigger firemouths or grow some out. Also, when all your fish grow up that tanks probably going to be pretty full. Silver dollars grow to about 6 inches around. The barbs all hit 3 inches or so and the cons get to about 3.5 - 6inches. So, when all are grown you've got
4 6 inch silver dollars
6 3 inch tiger barbs
5 3.5 - 6 inch convicts
All in a 48"? (I think) fish tank. I think adding any more fish might be pushing it unless you plan on moving fish later on. I would just stick to what you have and watch them grow personally. Just my opinion, hope it helped.

sounds good bro, im just going to let good enough alone and get another tank ( 4th hahaha) i really like firemouths and have no tank to put them in :)

I'm in the same dillema, I have a 135 w/ severum, JD, GT, carpinte, silver dollars and senegal bichir and want to add firemouths but I think they'll be crowded. I need a bigger tank LOL

I have kept FMs and cons together but always under more equal circumstances. I think you would end up with a dead FM.

Id recommend keeping cons and firemouths at eqaul size and number. Id say 30 gallons for 1 firemouth, 1 con.

That biggest con could easily beat up a firemouth. Why not get rid of the Convicts and just have firmouths?

i was thinkig that, but i really like watching the cons, really cool how they pair up and build little huts, moving all the rocks out and stuff, really entertaining :)

i have another floor in the house without a fish tank so i may be able to talk the wife into another hahahah
