Hi, I have a pair of Jack Dempsey for a few months now and are rather small. The male is 4" and the female is 3" and they were showing signs of spawning so I moved them to their own tank about a week ago with multiple flower pots and the temp is around 78*. They have not showed any new signs of spawning so I added a dither and it appears the male has paired with the convict instead of the female JD. They are always together and are ganging up on the other female. Is this even possible? and How would the fry turn out?

Thanks

I have had a Jack Dempsey and a Texas Cichlid breed... The fry seemed fine I donated them to the LFS. But sorry i have no experiences with convicts :(

It is possible. Google Jack Dempsey/Convict hybrid. I actually had your exact situation happen to myself once. But the first batch of eggs didn't hatch(as sometimes happens with rookie parents) and since the hybrid pair was hindering my electric blue Dempsey project, I removed the convict. Forgot to mention, this was a male EBJD and a female Con! But anyways, I've heard some think of convicts as kind of the "universal breeder" in the cichlid world.
