Well I just found out my Convicts had babies. They are in a 75 gallon tank with several other cichlids. They are now extremely aggressive. I have never had any fry from Convicts so I am a little unsure of what to do here. Any help & or advice would be greatly appreciated.

They make great snacks for other fish but the parents might or might not be happy with that. Mostly depends on what you keep with them. Parents are known to terrorize fish much larger than them when protecting their brood.

Ya I see how nasty they can be. I was fixing a few rocks when I got nipped in the back of my hand. They are also attempting to fight my 17 inch Pleco.

you could add some more hiding spots for tankmates, but those convicts will do pretty good at protecting them, you could remove the parents,or take out others

Taking out the other fish is not an option. If I remove the parents what is the chance of the fry surving on their own?

I have quite a few hiding places for the larger fish in my tank. I also have a fairly large piece of texas holy rock & a few smaller hunks. The fry seem to be going into the holy rock's tunnels. Should I add some more hiding places for the fry to hide? Any suggestions on some extra hiding spots?

There's a good chance that a few will survive. It all depends on how quickly the other fish eat them. If the fry are allowed to gain some size, then many of them will live to breed themselves. Then the process will start all over again. Convicts are very resilient. I would remove both parents and the majority of their fry to another tank before they take over your tank. Keeping a single male or female would be a better idea if you intend to avoid breeding in the tank in question.

I am trying to sell or trade some of the full grown convicts now. I am hoping to unload them quickly to get my tank back.

naw man just let the other fish eat them trust me the convicts will breed again alot.

i'm suprised that they lasted this long if you have a pleco in the tank useually they polish off most of the eggs at night

a few will probably survive they are pretty good at fending for them selfs plus its a good way to sort out the strongest of them also if they spawned once it won't be the last time once convicts start breeding they will do it constantly there one of the eazyist cichlids to spawn which also makes the fry worth very little unfortunetly but it is kinda fun and good practice if you ever wan't to breed other cichlids
