Convict Breeder Quotes, Appropriate Signature Material or Not?

As a father of a 17y boy and a 14y girl and someone that has seen the effects of teenage bullying can have(Columbine High School), I would like other members veiws on this.

There is a member here, Convict breeder, who is new to fish keeping and not in the finacial sitsuation to afford much regarding our hobby. Over the first few months of his membership here, C.B. has taken alot of ridicule and adbuse.
Recently this 17y kid has shared events from his personal life with us.

Since following these two threads, and others posted by C.B. what this kid is going through is devestating. He has found MFK as a place to go to momentarily escape what he has been going through and to express his feelings. For this the ridicule has come to an end. Most all of MFK has sypathy for him.

A few members recently quoted him in their signature, this has an effective result of insulting him every time they post. Although most of them do not feel they are insulting him and think it's just a funny comment, C.B. has posted his displeasure about it. Reccently a debate over this evolved in my "Discus" thread which was not the place for such a discussion. Now although Dread has provided some great material for flamming, I'd rather not flame him in this thread, so i ask all who post to just express their views on the subject with out flamming:)

Im with you 98% bderick. I like the kid and have read his threads re: his mom, and have no idea of the pain hes going through at this time as Im fortunate enough to have never lost a parent, and am with you that we need to sorta be there for him while hes going through this ordeal as well as steer him in the right direction with fishkeeping. I have your back CB! As do many others (if not all of us) here on this forum. The 2% that Im sorta iffy about is the quote in the thread presented today. At the time it was funny, you gotta admit, I still get a chuckle just thinking about it. Have you been privy to some of the major foul ups and errors, and stupid ?s that Ive presented to y'all. I nearly cooked a tank of juvi SA cichlids battling ick (100+F for who knows how long , lucky to lose just 1 pike). Ive used hook and line to get fish out of a planted tank, so not to hurt the plants. More than once!! (I know, idiot move). Tried to convince a mod that, yes oscars do great with plants, so do jags. Just stupid stuff. I would be honored if anyone used anything I ever posted here, lame or not, as their signature.Basically what Im trying to spit out is, how does CB feel about this? Dejected? proud? Unphazed? Im not familiar with any other examples but this one.I still get razzed all the time by my friends here for my antics. FRIENDS.. Key word. Im almost positive that we are all friends here. There is noone that I honestly dislike here. If there was I wouldnt be here. So if you are put off by this CB, then just holler and itll stop. I got CBs back, and Ill quote it in my signature, we all should. GOOD LUCK HOMIE!!!
 
Wow... my views...

Well first I hate hate hate people that should know better and are stupid or choose to be that way instead of informing themselves. But I have compassion for those who are uninformed/new to the world esp. if they're going through a rough time. And he is a young kid. Sure I could pick apart CB threads being hard to read but I won't because he's young and has other problems.

Really anyone of any maturity wouldn't do such a thing. Sure you see alot of signatures "poking fun" or that are just plain funny but they're between friends and people who know better who might have just said something funny once..

And with that I think is the problem.. Dread himself is a kid or at least his maturity level is. So what he thinks is funny and thinks will make people laugh is really just being harsh about something to a young person shouldn't be a stupid question. The point is did he(CB) learn from it? And I'm guessing he did. Many people come from poor backgrounds. I remember trying to feed really weird stuff years and years ago before I had online information.

Being a know it all doesn't make you anything but the capacity to keep learning/drive can make you able to do just about anything you want to in life. Who knows CB could be a forum sponser in 20 years or a big time breeder.

On another note watch who you take advice from and make sure it's from people who know what they're talking about. Too many armchair fishkeepers who can give advice on everything.
 
Yes we all have sympathy for him...but i dont think dreads signature should be modified...its not like he is flaming the kid that bad...

Your right it is not that bad, but it is still flaming. It's something C.B. don't need to deal with at this time.

I agree with you on this. MFK is an awsome community in which members can be a part of something positive. CB is going through some tough times, and it is great that he can get on his computer, talk with this great group of people, and momentarily escape from other things going on.

Making fun of him in your signature is not exactly condusive to welcoming people and making them feel like they are apart of the forum. I have no problems with joking around and "making fun" of others by posting a comment. We should be able to joke around with each other. However, quoting someone in your sig is unnecessary. I think it would be fine if CB didn't have a problem with it. I am sure others do the same thing when they know that person doesn't have a problem with it, but it sounds like CB has a problem with it.

Dread, it would be respectful if you removed that signature.
 
thanks all, im gona live with my aunt she wants me with her. my mom hasnt eaten in 3 days or drankin in awhile as her body is shutting down slowly as we speak right now... but i wont be on that much cause im gonna be moving over to my aunts and im spending time with my mom.. o and i get a 29 gallon tank and only a 29 so all that is gonna be in there is 1 blood parrot adn 3 firemouths with 3 rosey reds as dithers cause this room is small for 2 tanks so im getting a 29 ijf i be good. but yah thanks all!!!!

CB has broad shoulders. He deals with his difficult personal life, and obviously doesn't let what is said here hold much weight. For that (and other reasons) he is a valuable member.


Convict_Breeder (and all other members):
If you are offended by any comment that is placed in anyones sig, contact a mod and ask them to do something about it.

From what I gather, you do have an issue with the signature that is being discussed here, so I'm going to ask the offending parties to remove them. If not, I'll do it.

We try our best to make this an actual community, and it most of the time we succeed. Sometimes we miss things. Let us know when we miss it.


I'll leave it at that, and we'll take it from here.

Edit: I'm using a CB quote for my sig, as I feel that it's appropriate.
