Ok currently from what Ive read I have an overstocked tank. 90 gallon with an Oscar, GT, Convict and JD. Due to this I'm going to be getting rid of the GT within the week even though all fish are mid size (largest being Oscar of 7") I also am interested in starting an attempt at breeding/self supply of food. I know the convicts breed like none other, but would it be wise to put a second convict in the 90 gallon to replace the GT to breed some as a future food source for the larger fish. Id be moving the fry into a 30 gal to mature until ready for their purpose. Basically my question would be would the 2 convicts be too agressive/territorial towards the JD and O if they were to breed in the 90g.

PS
All comments welcome. I'm here to listen and learn.
May also trade the baby convicts in for store credit to buy other food sources.
They currently only get live food (rosies) once every other week.

When cons breed in tanks with mates..Even in 180's they tend to "own" LARGE sections of the tank...they also cause stress, and fighting, between the other fish, who are now crammed in one area....I would just let them breed in the 30, and let them raise the fry themselves....Good luck.

I agree with spizz.

Here is an excellent source of easily self supply of live food.

As your omnivores get older I feel they will want less live fish. But will always accept live bugs ;)

Also Brian Scott suggested in an article once about getting peas into the Oscar diet..

Remember omnivores are not Carnivores or piscivores and that is a big reason why it is suggested to vary the diet..

I like to feed live food(specifically fish) so I won't tell you not to, as I think it is a good part of a diet..Though the better live food for specific types of fish is debated. I have fed live fish and bugs to my O's in the past.. One in particular that lived the longest stopped eating live fish period after 5 years :) and not because it wasn't there... It just didn't suit the taste anymore.

I'd quit feeding live fish, period. No need and not good nutrition. I wouldn't put yet another fish into that tank either.
As far as the (excellent) comment about peas-yes. I tell people til I'm blue in the face that Oscars are omnivores, not carnivores. They need plant material, veggies, spirilina, peas, zucchini, etc. I don't know if it's ever sunk into anyone's head so far, but I keep saying it anyway.
