My con pair spawns every 4 weeks lick clockwork. They stop caring for the fry after about 3 weeks, eat them (or the other fish eat the fry) and lay more eggs.
The last time I had a pair of cons (good god, like 13 years ago) they cared for the fry until they could fend for themselfs. At least I think so, because I remember having a lot of convicts by the time I got rid of them, all crammed in a 20 gallon tall tank with one plant and a flower pot.
Is this normal breeding behavior for convicts, to spawn, protect like mad, only to abandon the fry and spawn again? Not that I want hundreds of cons, it just seems so futile to me.
