Hey, guys, I have a question regarding my two Convict Cichlids.
Is there a possibility a female and male convict cichlid would breed in a 5.5-gallon tank?

If not- what fishes you guys think would breed in a 5.5-gallon tank?

-Thank you, Sly

It's not that they won't breed- convicts would probably breed in a dirty puddle. It's that the male will kill the female in that tight of a confined space, and two convict cichlids would be far too much bioload for the tank to support in the long run. Water would turn bad very quickly each week. It also would be cruel to keep fish as large as convicts in a 5.5 gallon. Similar to keeping a dog in a small crate and never letting it out ever.

I have my pair in a 29. Seems good so far. Ten days or so after I moved then into it (from a divided section of a 55g, they already had one spawning in the 55) they laid eggs and I got wiggelers, but last night the catfish ate them all, I forgot to take it out.

I would do an absolute minimum of 10 gallons for a YOUNG pair. I think a 20 gallon would be much more comfortable for long term.
