So I have 5 convicts 4 females 1 male. It seems like my bigger female has paired up with my bigger male both about 4 inches. But it seems like the female is the more dominate one she picks on the male a lot. And they have been in my 180 for about a month now and no eggs i'm thinking of putting the male and another random female in my 75 gallon so they will breed for feeders. Will the male pair up with this other female I put him with? Or should I put him in the other tank with the one he already paired up with?

IME male convicts will switch to a different female for no particular reason. I had a breeding pair in with some other convicts. They quit getting along and the male paired off with a different female and they started reproducing quickly after. Once convicts pair off though, they should be separated from others, otherwise there will be too much competition. You could try putting the male in with all of the other females. If he pairs off, separate the pair from the others and give them their own tank, or at least partition a good size section for them. If he doesn't pair off, mix it up and start over.

I have to convicts, bought 3 from the pet store and got lucky, but anyway, yeah they ate (the breeders) more than everyone else and grew way fast, it's like they knew they would be the alpha's of the tank. Had a Dempsey and the other convict (who wasn't nearly as big) in with em, maybe that has to do with the small fry count, I'm not sure - So one day i thought the heaters weren't working as they should, so i added one or turned the one they had, up. Wow, had i known that would do it, well i probably still would have, but yeah soon after she got really (and him too) really territorial, and the picking got worse for the other two, they ended up hiding behind the uplift tubes all the time, wouldn't move. they now have new homes though (the odd ones) and now i have six fry - two albino - and 4 regular ones, I think the tank was about 80-83 degrees F. Not sure this will help. Oh btw - my female is more dominant too, but she's not like mean to the male, he just puts up with it, and does crowd control. (took the babies out and put back in, soon after - like a week and now they're like WTF who are you guys? lol they dont eat em just chase em if they get to close to their cave area.
