Convict Cichlid fry

soon as they hatch they only need the parents to watch out for them if there in the wild or if theres other fish in the tank but if there in a fry tank all by them self they don't need the parents at all you could even hatch the eggs away from the parents

True dat. And they can feed off the particles that float around from normal feeding as well.
 
Thats right, ,really at any time. I have found, however, that if you separate them from the parents really early they grow slower, trama(sp) or something. The fry will school for a week or so but as they start to get biger and more adult looking they will skatter and start acting like adult fish. This only takes mine like a week or two. That is when I separate them. If you have other fish in the tank, it is when they scatter that they get eaten the most. Just my opinion.
