Hey all, Just joined and need some help. In your opinion, what plants have the strongest chance of survival when it comes to convict cichlids? My girlfriend bought two of those spiral "bamboo" plants, which I told her are not truly aquatic to begin with, and I removed them and gave them to my brother for his pond. However, I now have greenish tinted water which I'm certain is the beginnings of a potential algae bloom because she over feeds the cichlids, and the water is extremely nutrient rich. In my experience, plants and convict cichlids don't go well together. Can anyone advise me from their own experience what plants would have the greatest chance of surviving with the cichlids? I want to beautify the tank with a aquascape, and also deprive the algae of the necessary nutrients it needs to bloom by having the plants starve them. Thanks!

I don't know about Convicts... but my Oscar does not touch any of my Banana Plants. Its the only plant he does not bite, and wont even try to dig up the roots of.

Hes good with Moss Balls too, and I hear everything is good with them pretty much.

Amazon swords worked really well for me. The only time my convict uproots them is if they are place around the mouth of her cave.

I've had good luck with swords, java fern, anubias, and another grass like plant I can't remember the name of (not val).

I have only had my convicts a few weeks but they seem to do fine with the Amazon Sword, Anubias and Java Fern that is in my tank. The female loves to pick at the Java Moss I bought but that's fine with me

Thank you all so much for the replies, and what you all said pretty much confirms what I have researched. Thanks to you all!
