Hi, I love this forum and read it every day but this is my first post and unfortunately I am using it to ask for help. My two adult convicts have been in the same 20 gallon tank for over a year now and have produced 4 batches of babies in it. About 2 weeks ago I noticed they had some big white spots on their top fins so I took them out from their babies and put them in a 10 gallon underneath to try and fix them. Well things have only gotten worse with the mom, she has a huge white spot on her side that I can't figure out what it is and also it looks like she has fin rot. I have been treating with some cure all and i put a little salt in there but it just gets bigger. Also I noticed on the other side of her, her scales have kind of started to fall off. I don't know if it is old age or if its ich or something else or what. I feel really bad and I hope someone can point me in the right direction. There is a bad pic below but it kind of shows the large white spot. Thanks

Either a bacterial or fungal infection. Extremely bad case too. You should instant find the problem as soon as a fish looks bad because it always gets worst.
You need to get melafix and aquarium salt asap or you WILL lose these fish unfortuantly. These problems are due to poor water quality. Melafix will clear up ulcers and kill whats destroying the fins. Its a great antibiotic. good luck
Keep water EXTREMELY clean for the next 2 weeks as well

Ok, I found a spare bottle of Melafix under my 90 gallon. A few more questions though. Should I change out some water every day in my doctor tank and re-med or just keep the same water? Also the guy doesn't have it nearly as bad as the girl so is it bad if they stay in the same tank when he is healed or should I separate them and treat them in different tanks. They were in the tank with a batch of their babies before I took them out and they were showing signs of this in that tank so is there any worry that it could have spread to them or do you think they are fine? They are pretty small so I can't visibly see anything wrong but maybe its really contagious and they are infected? I don't know..... anyway thanks for the help already and if any of these other questions can be answered I thank you 50 times in advance.

Remove the carbon. Meds will evaportate in about 2 days. So after 48hrs do a 50% water change. then redose. Follow dosing directions.
Both cons have the disease so they both NEED to be treated or it can come back. I would keep them in the same quarintine tank. Do a 50% water change befor you put in meds.
Unfortuatly if the fry are young they may not make it, ut if you keep your water clean they might not catch it. Keep and eye on them and the first sign of infecting in even 1 fish they all also need to be treated or else they will die. Use 50% strength of melafix AND 50 %aquarium salt.
